In 1985 a group of like-minded independent camping store owners joined together and formed a buying group. From 1988 the group traded under the banner, Leisure Action; the outcome was a competitive advantage over fellow independent stores and improved margins.

This name later changed to Camping World and provided marketing, buying and member support through an enthusiastic team of staff at head office. Camping World soon became the largest independent camping retailer in Australia.

From 2001 Camping World began importing exclusive product from China for better margins and core products to its Members.

In 2009 Camping World commenced the search for a partner for further growth and better programs and services for its Members. In 2010 a merger with ARL was formed, giving Members better support and the added benefits available from ARL’s experience and strength with buying, marketing and import programs.

Recently, the Outdoor & Adventure industry has seen significant changes from being once dominated by independent retailers to being dominated by major listed companies and the competitive pressures this is placing on independent retailers.

All Camping World Members enjoy the benefits of a well known and highly reputable trading identity, preferential trading terms with suppliers, comprehensive as well as exclusive product range, “own brand” products for extra margin.
